For the whole month of June – known to us as Monitoring Month – we’ll be keeping an extra close eye on debates. Thanks to a great team of volunteers we’ll be collecting the hard numbers on men and women speaking at Brussels events.
Last year’s Monitoring Month, which we undertook with the support of the European Women’s Lobby, led to this report.
Last year we monitored 263 panels with over 1,200 speakers, finding 72 all-male panels and an average percentage of 25% female speakers, with sectors like energy dropping all the way down to just 11%.
How will this year compare?
We’ve already started monitoring, with big events like the European Business Summit unfortunately not showing much improvement on last year. We’ve spotted several all-male panels already.
Coming up in the next weeks we have more big events like the European Sustainable Energy Week and the Development Days.
